Synthesizing and Disseminating

We are firmly planted in the knowledge era of podcasts and e-books, giving us access to experts in different fields at our fingertips. But with so much information available how do we sift through to find the most relevant? And just as important, how do we share this information back out so that others don’t have to spend their time searching instead of learning?

I spent this afternoon catching up and having great conversation with a friend, Peter. Peter and I are longtime buddies from Cal Poly SLO, where we attended college together. He works as a financial consultant doing bankruptcy and restructuring, which means he gets to see the ins-and-outs of companies and work with a variety of people from different backgrounds.

Peter is someone that I respect intellectually and for his work ethic, not to mention his ability to thrive socially in just about any situation is impressive. You should have seen him at our friends Greg and Lindsey’s wedding…the kid was out of control on the dance floor.

Anyways we went for a jog down towards the Golden Gate Bridge for an outdoor workout while we chatted. I shared about the project I’ve been working on the past few years, particularly my belief that we’re the average of the 5 people we spend the most time around. We are the product of our environment, and the people we spend time around are a big part of that, for better or for worse.

We need good people in our lives. People that build us up when we’re down, that call us on our sh*t when we’re being dramatic, and that celebrate our successes no matter how small. We need people that support us no matter how positive we are and keep us focused. Peter is definitely one of those people for me.

Peter and I discussed how he and I and others in our social group have been hungry for knowledge, but how we’ve struggled to disseminate it well. With the internet and e-books and so much more, how do we really get the best and most applicable information from it?

Which brings us to the project I mentioned earlier. I am working to synthesize all of the information I’ve learned, read, and absorbed combined with my experiences so I can disseminate it for you. It started as just a quest for personal knowledge, but after sharing bits and pieces with friends and the members in my gym I began to see the positive impact it could have. So I began compiling my thoughts and the research of others into something useful. The first iteration was handwritten notes in a binder, then organized into a PowerPoint, and finally the finished copy of the Building Better Humans Guidebook that you can download today.

I am super excited to be sharing the guidebook and online mindset course with everyone, but I am going to make a concerted effort to share what I learn on a more consistent, raw form basis. To synthesize the best of the best in mindset, productivity, and wellness and disseminate it for you so you can be successful as a whole person. In the gym and outside of it, at work and at home with your family.

Because information should be shared, not kept secret. We should collaborate with one another, not conceal things. To raise the standards for what is acceptable and what is possible, we need to empower. And empowering you to achieve your full potential, to be the best, raddest human you can be, is what I aim to do.
